Rosacea and facial redness

Rosacea and facial redness is any redness of the skin in the form of red spots, red colouring or visible blood vessels.

What is rosacea and facial redness?

Rosacea is often the result of enlarged blood vessels under the skin. It can be very debilitating and affect self confidence as it is most common on the face, although other areas of the body can also be affected.

Facial redness more generally can cause an uneven skin tone which is difficult to cover with makeup.

Why do people suffer from rosacea and facial redness?

Rosacea is more common in women than men and can be caused by lifestyle factors such as diet and alcohol, sun exposure, temperature extremes and exercise.

There is no known cure, however there are treatments that can reduce the impact of a flare.

Symptoms of rosacea and facial redness
  • Redness or persistent flushing
  • Red spots or pus-filled bumps
  • Thread veins or visible blood vessels
  • Thickening of the skin around the nose – this is usually only in the longest most persistent cases of rosacea and rarely affects women
