What Sofwave actually does:

Sofwave delivers focused ultrasound energy in seven parallel beams to a consistent depth of ~1.5 mm in the mid-dermis. At this level, gentle thermal injury triggers a healing response: fibroblasts lay down new collagen and elastin, so skin becomes tighter and finer-textured over the following weeks. An integrated cooling system (Sofcool™) protects the surface, keeping treatment comfortable while energy reaches the target layer.

How it compares (Sofwave vs Ultherapy vs HIFU):

All three use ultrasound, but they behave differently. Ultherapy targets deeper planes and may be less forgiving for certain faces. Traditional HIFU devices place individual “dots” of energy, so coverage can be slower and less even. Sofwave’s SUPERB™ technology treats a broad band of dermis quickly and evenly at a skin-rejuvenating depth, with a strong safety profile and consistent outcomes. Many patients need just one session; a minority with more laxity may benefit from a second.

Your appointment, step by step:

1. Consultation and mapping
   We assess skin quality, laxity and goals, confirm indications, and take baseline photos. Sofwave integrates well with treatment plans that include toxin, fillers, Profhilo/biostimulators, lasers and medical skincare.
   
   
2. Comfort & preparation
   We apply topical anaesthetic and cool the skin. Around the eyes we can tailor additional comfort measures if needed. Most patients describe a warm “zing” that is very tolerable.
   
   
3. Treatment
    The handpiece glides over the skin in passes. A full face and neck typically takes 45–60 minutes; single areas are quicker.
   
   
4. Aftercare
   Expect mild, short-lived redness. You can usually return to normal activities immediately. Keep skin hydrated and wear SPF 50 daily.

Who is a good candidate?

Sofwave suits women and men with mild to moderate laxity, fine lines and texture changes who want a fresher look without downtime. It’s appropriate for all Fitzpatrick skin types and can be performed in summer with strict SPF. If your laxity is more advanced, we’ll discuss whether a staged plan (e.g., Sofwave plus biostimulators, or referral for surgery) will serve you better.

Safety & considerations

Sofwave is cleared by the FDA and has a strong safety profile. Side effects are typically mild and temporary (redness, slight swelling or tenderness). As with any energy device, rare risks include temporary numbness or focal swelling; we discuss these in consent. If you are pregnant, have active skin infection, or recent isotretinoin use, we may defer treatment.
