With that in mind, I thought I’d take a moment to sit down and share a few updates on everything I’ve been up to over the past few weeks - as well as a sneak peek of what’s to come in the next few!
The big news this month… is that I've joined the team at award-winning clinic Self London! Based on Harley Street - and founded & led by my good friend (and world-renowned Consultant Dermatologist) Dr Anjali Mahto, Self London is a CQC registered, state-of-the-art clinic facility with many of the latest aesthetic devices and technology on the market. This means I'll have another location to see my valued patients in (and the space at Self is absolutely breathtaking!) as well as continuing to see you all at my Mayfair & Kingston clinics too!
My new role at Self London means I'll now be able to offer my patients more treatments than ever before... including Sofwave (which I'm REALLY excited about!), BBL Heroic, AviClear (the UK's first FDA-cleared laser for acne) and so, so much more!
As I'm sure you'll have seen, tragic news broke this month after the first person in the UK lost their life following a liquid, non-surgical BBL (using dermal filler to add volume to the buttocks) administered by a non-medic.
My thoughts and condolences go out to the victim and her family - this is a heartbreaking story which truly highlights the need for regulation in the UK aesthetics arena. Enough is enough... how many more innocent lives will be lost before something is done?
Patient safety is of paramount importance at EWA; you can trust you are in safe, medical, insured and highly trained hands. I am a registered Advanced Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Independent Prescriber, with over 20 years of experience in the medical sector. I'm also a member of the British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses (BAMAN), the Complications in Medical Aesthetics Collaborative (CMAC), SaveFace, the Safety in Beauty Trusted Practitioners Directory, the British Dermatological Nursing Group (BDNG) and the Aesthetic Complication Expert Group (ACE) and regularly attend training courses, conferences and events to further my learning and knowledge.
All procedures come with risks... and complications can occur, even when these treatments are performed by the most experienced medical professionals. The difference is that these highly-trained individuals will not perform treatments that aren't safe in the first place (like liquid BBLs) and can spot warning signs quickly; safely resolving the problem and dealing with any complications. This is why aesthetic treatments should always be performed by medical professionals - doctors, nurses, dentists, who have advanced understanding of your anatomy, of health and of any associated risks with treatments.
Please, if you have any questions, concerns or worries, do not hesitate to get in touch with me. Education is power - there is no such thing as a silly question when it comes to your LIFE
October is another busy one, with lots of industry events lined up! I’m looking forward to attending the the Complications in Medical Aesthetic Collaborative (CMAC) conference on October 4th-5th (for healthcare professionals only) - and to CCR (one of the UK's biggest industry conferences, where I'm speaking alongside Consultant Dermatologist Dr Anjali Mahto. I always try to attend as many educational industry events as possible, fully immersing myself in all things aesthetic medicine and innovation to ensure that I continue to bring the latest, most effective and safest treatments to my patients.
I've been featured in some fantastic press titles again this month - including some really exciting titles, like GQ, Refinery29 and Marie Claire! Educating and empowering people with factual, useful and safe advice when it comes to their skin / any aesthetic treatments they may decide to have is extremely important to me... and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to work with these titles in order to do so.
Do you enjoy these types of round-up posts? Let me know in the comments!
Till next time,
Emma xo
